Other Sewing Products

Here are a few of the other items the ladies are creating as they launch their small businesses.
The round items are padded tortilla warmers. There are used to keep tortillas, potatoes, rolls, etc. warm.
The photo totes hold a 4" x 6" photo in the window area and are currently being made in black, hot pink, light blue, and mint green.
What do you think?

April Sewing Classes

April 15th, 2010
San Vicente, Mexico.
Another week of sewing classes is in full bloom. This week the ladies are making skirts and blouses. Yards of fabric are being cut and sewn together. Some of the students are making summer tops and shorts for their little girls. Wish I had my camera, but Chris has it this time around. Some of you blog followers have been wondering what some of the projects that ladies have been working on for the launch of their small business. So, I include a few pics.

Bless Ejido Durango in Baja Earthquake Zone 3

<>The pastoral leaders of Ejido Durango la Vina with Jamie from the Coast Vineyard

<> Me with the la Vina friends...

SO... yes, it was a rapid 'in and out' trip for the 12 of us who went, but we were able to get a significant amount of supplies through. The Mex gov't officials helped us with official approval and we passed all the material quickly and without a problem. The 25 families of the church are all OK, and 4 families are living on the church grounds. In the entire community, there were (only) 60 injuries form the main quakes, and those people have been well-cared for by the Red Cross... so no real 'injured' needing our care. We did pray and pray and pray with our friends, all of whom are now faced with the serious 'what next?' problem. THE problem is that most buildings are destroyed and NOT safe to live in... but the option of re-building may not BE an option with the significant shift in the water table, and the mixing with the soil layer causing a 'shifting sand' phenomenon...

Yes, the ground is still shaking... we had a good 4.0-ish while we were there, and a couple of 3.5-ish swayings...

PRAY for our brothers and sisters in the Ejido Durango, only a 4-mile bit from THE epicenter and on the still-moving fault-line

Chris

PICS:
<>meeting in the church (that's still standing) in Ejido Durango to pray and share together

<>Unloading the 4 trucks worth of supplies brought for the 25 families

<>gathering with Pastor Elias, hearing about the huge 7.2 and 5.2 quakes, how few injuries occured (60 people, already cared for) but most structures are uninhabitable

<>driving the seriously torn-up roads... roller-coaster-ish, lots of cracks and gaps...

<>Chris pulling together the 25 first aid kits taken down...
Baja Norte, Mexico... near the Epicenter of the 'Easter Sunday 7.2 Earthquake"...

well, I wish I could have blogged from there, but it's the day after, and I am SO jazzed that we were able to get supplies and first aid kits into the Quake Zone...

Divide and Bless:San Vicente + Earthquake epicenter

8 Apr Chris in Chula Vista

OK, friends, we'll need prayer covering for this...
Lori is pre-trip for a 10 day bit in San Vicente, to do a week of sewing classes and work with the teenage girls...
I (Chris) am heading with a small team into the epicenter region of the recent 7.2 earthquake in central Baja. Our friends at the la Vina Ejido Durango church are right there, were hit very hard, and they need our help... so, working with the Mexicali la Vina, we're taking supplies as requested, going prepared to minister to injuries, pray for the people and also assess what's the situation to help for the future.

We'll just call this the 'Divide and Bless' week...

Pray, pray, pray

your brother, Chris
